Cyclone rebuild projects
Another interesting job!
I’m down here in Yeppoon working on the re build after cyclone Marcia tore through.
2 Hill St Yeppon is a major rebuild. It’s is a historic 99 year old house situated at the top of the hill overlooking Great Keppel Island. I love working on well built old houses.
When I first arrived on site the whole of the eastern side of the building was collapsed. The integrity of the old building was good, but 99 years of wind and rain had taken its toll on the prevailing face. The mortise and tenon joints that connected the posts to the bearers were compromised by moisture . When the cyclone came through it simply lifted the front wall up and folded it back.
It’s now on its way to being rebuilt. We’ve respected the old building techniques where possible and combined them with new methods for superior tie down.
I enjoyed calculating the birds mouths and re pitching the new rafters to match the old ones. We’ve also spent some time manufacturing new window sill to match in with the lovely historic one.
So now I only have to rebuild some internal walls, clad them with Vjs, install the windows and the result is going to be stunning.
Stand by for some completed shots!
